REVISION and past paper questions

Many of you have asked about exam papers and where to find them. I have uploaded many past papers to pages that can be found on the righthand menu ->
Use them wisely! My suggestions are

  1. Pick out a paper and determine what topics are assessed without studying the paper in too much detail
  2. Go through a topic and produce a mind-map or concept map without using your notes or a revision guide
  3. Complete the exam question for that particular topic
  4. Mark using the mark scheme
  5. Use this document () to evaluate your performance for that question (or the whole paper)
  6. Check your errors with the exam report to see if the mistakes you made are common ones
  7. Use your performance in the question, your evaluation, the exam report, the specification and a revision guide/your notes to develop your mind-map or concept map
  8. Review this mind-map making condensed copies, NOT JUST READING IT, within two days - write some questions for the next time you review it
  9. Review it again a week later - complete the questions or construct a new mind-map or concept map using just the technical vocab or diagrams

Using this method will ensure that you revise actively. A common mistake of students is to whizz through and complete huge number of past paper questions without ever really reviewing their performance or developing their understanding. Using this method one past paper can provide a strong stimulus for improvement and can lead to hours of quality work that will ultimately lead to better performance in your exams.

Happy revising, Mr Gale
